My friend and co-worker Danny Estrada and I were on our way to an afternoon meeting on the east side in the low thirties. We had time for lunch and had a craving for Indian so we headed down to 28th and Lex where there are so many choices, 11 Indian restaurants within a few blocks.
The first place we spotted looked good, Copper Chimney.
It is a attractive place with stylish modern decor.
We arrived shortly before noon and there were just a few tables seated. We wondered why the host sat us right between two other seated tables when there was still a lot of open space. By 12:15 it was obvious, the place became packed with enthusiastic diners.
The buffet was not huge, 16 courses, but offered a nice selection of delicious lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes. There were also delicious deserts. At $8.95 it was a real find. Brunch on weekends is $10.95 and includes wine.
Their standard menu it quite interesting and includes a Fusion of North and South Indian Food. Prices are moderate.
The funny thing is that this place gets very mixed consumer reviews, from wonderful to horrible. It is hard to imagine that these posters are talking about the same place. We loved the place and would go back.
If you're planning dinner or have the rest of the day off you can also enjoy Copper Chimney's full bar.
For cocktails, the restaurant has roped in the services of celebrity drink-maker Jerry Banks, who has tailor-made 12 cocktails to pair with food Copper Chimney serves.
For instance, the innovative Liquid Copper cocktail shakes up Mount Gay Rum, mango puree, mango tea, lime juice and tamarind syrup or the Madras Rose that serves Stoli and fresh Strawberries, rose syrup, lemon juice and champagne.
I hope to be back soon to try these cocktails.
