We met friends here for a drink and some tasty small plates, before dinner at Il Mulino, this past Friday.
We had some delightful wine and food and had the wonderful opportunity to meet Jody Williams and talk about the new website www.ilovegottino.com.
We have been a big fan of Jody's culinary arts for decades. Her creativity in the kitchen is always a joy. We love Gottino and often bring friends who always fall in love with its authentic charm.
We tasted several wines. The favorites of the night were a white wine made by Michele Alois in Campagna of a rather obscure grape Pallagrello Bianco.
It had a rich golden hue, lovely delicate nose of stone fruit and and citrusblossoms, a wonderful buttery texture on the tongue with flavors of pears and peaches with a touch of earth.
Our friends at Italian Wine Merchant's say:
"Once the favorite grape of Ferdinando IV, King of Naples, Pallagrello Bianco had essentially been written off Italy's varietal roster-, but...
They also say this about the wine, "time in the glass allows the wine to flesh out, expressing an innate richness marked by honey and herb notes, accentuated by white pepper."
We also really liked a very well made Muller Thurgau by Pacherof and mildly effervescent Cortese, the grape used to make Gavi, called Meo by La Colombera.
It is great fine exploring these unusual grapes and the people at Gottino make it so easy. www.ilovegottino.com
