Robin Schwartz the vivacious wine advocate of Prescott Wines tipped me off to this sexy wine. It might be the most delicious and fun sparkling rose wine I have ever tasted.
When ever I talk about Rose I am quick to caution you to not think of "white zinfandel" or "pink champagne." Those often cloying wines, while enjoyed by some, are a something I would never recommend.
A real Roses, they are made with many different grape varieties, are something quite different. Seco is a perfect example of how good a Rose can be. It is pink and it is delightfully effervescent. It is not like "pink champagne."
The bright orange-pink color stands out on the table and in the glass, the tiny lively bubbles give a hint of what's to come. The nose reveals scents of fresh fruit and with your first sip you may think you just bit into a delicious strawberry peach fruit.
Seco is made with 100% Pinot Noir grapes that do well in the climate around the lake. They wine is produced in a prosecco style which gives the bubbles a gentle but persistent texture. The mouth feel is creamy and fulfilling.
I would drink this wine alone as an aperitif, with light cheeses, with ceviche, or fresh figs and crackers. I would also love to make a fruity sangria with this wine.
You might notice the pink ribbon on the label. In 2008 Leo Hillinger started a social project – The Pink Ribbon action, for the breast cancer care. 1 Euro is donated to this cause for every bottle sold.
Look for this wine, but here is a tip, Trader Joe's on 14th Street in NYC has a good supply at a very great price. Maybe I will see you there this weekend.
