Montclair is exploding with new burger places Elevation, Smash Burger & Five Guys on the way, and Raymond's or Uptown always served pretty good burgers. But my favorite in town for many reasons is Tierney's Tavern in Montclair.
The burgers are simple and delicious and I love a good beer to go along with them.
Tierney's has an excellent selection on tape, and they do a volume that keeps them all fresh.
As their slogan says "Where Friends Meet Since 1934 . . ."
You are likely to run into someone you know or would like to meet. The place is kid friendly. I wouldn't take an infant there, I don't remember seeing any child seats, but 78 on up is OK. We have been taking our kids there for years, now my daughter and I can go there and drink together. I also enjoy that now, thanks to the State of NJ, no more smoke.
Tierny's offers 11 brews on tap. Here is my "Black and Tan", Guinness Stout and Bass Ale. Diana loves Blue Moon with a slice of orange. You can also find local brews like Cricket Hill. A classics like good old PBR.
The place is very cozy, probably has not changed much over the last few decades. Upstairs there is great entertainment from time to time.
The menu is simple with burgers, sandwiches, fries, cole slaw, etc.
The fish and chips are not bad. Everything is fresh made.
We always go for the burgers and fries. Menu
The bartenders are friendly. Oh another tip take cash. No credit cards are accepted, but dinner for two with a couple of beers was just $29, plus tip.
