It is a Tuesday night, Diana is off playing Mah Jong with her girlfriends, so Pierce and I are as she says "On Your Own" for dinner. Hmm, have not been to Ah'Pizz in awhile and Pierce has not been there yet. The things you miss when you are off on Summer adventures.
So what to drink, rushing from work, a quick pit stop at Angelbecks delivered this tasty Vino Bianco from Tuscany. 100% Vermentino, a perfect little $10 wine. Crafted at the hands of applauded wine maker Bibi Graetz, a very worthy wine.
This wine went very well with the two delicious Pizzas we had. The grape Vermentino is one of my favorite Italian white wine grapes. It is a great alternative to Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc.
What's new at Ah'Pizz? They have added more dishes to their menu and offered some nice specials. In addition to Pizza they have some nice starters like Italian Rice Balls, Arancini, and Eggplant Rollatini, stuffed Zucchini flowers were a special as was a great sounding pasta dish. They are also expanding their dining room to accomodate the restaurant's growing growing popularity.
We just had pizza and then enjoyed two really nice desserts.
The wine Casamatta Bianco is a crisp easy going white, it has nice apricot, lemon, apple flavors and a soft flowery nose. Awarded 88 Points by Robert Parker
It went well with both the Pizze di Montclair with its deep earthy Truffle Oil and Porcini Mushroom flavors over a blendof Pecorino Sardo and Parmigiano Reggiano Cheeses, topped with Cherry Tomatoes, Basil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and the Salciccia that has crumbled Italian Sausage, Crushed Tomatoes, Fresh Mozzarella, Basil, Parmigiano Reggiano, Extra Virgin Olive.
My son, Pierce, and I discussed Pizza in Montclair, his personal favorite is the barbeque chicken with ranch dressing pizza at Enzo's but we agreed that you can hardly call that pizza. He also really likes the Sicilian slice at Mr. Dino's but we both agreed that these pies tonight were the very best in their class.
