So we were out to dinner with our friend Cathy, Conrad was working, so it was just Diana, Cathy and I and some of the kids. We decided on Thai so I brought a bottle of Sokol Blosser Evolution, we were headed to JukGajee but they are closed on Sundays so we ended up at Brookside.
Cathy is one of my dear friends who I share cases of wines with. Whenever I find something I know she'd like I buy enough to share. In fact she brought a bottle De Morgenzon Chenin Blanc that we had just split a case of, another wine that goes very well with Thai.
We decided to open the Evolution, Cathy took a sip and gave me a look. What you don't like it I asked, no, she said, I want to know why you have never shared this with me before. It's fabulous.
Well the truth is.
I had forgotten about Evolution. I first tasted it maybe 20 years ago and always had a few bottles around, but somewhere along the line it dropped off my radar for a few years. Then some months ago I got a bottle as a gift, and remembered how much I love it. Now I am never with out it.
Evolution is a unique blend of grapes, many you may have never heard of, Pinot Gris, Müller-Thurgau, White Riesling, Semillon, Muscat Canelli, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, and Sylvaner. It is very finally crafted by the Sokol Blosser family. The result is a deliciously drinkable wine that fits many meals.
They say:
"Every new bottling has its own subtle and fresh personality. The 9 grapes tie together perfectly, creating a smooth, layered white wine that can hold its own or stand up to just about any food pairing you dare to serve it with. It is extraordinarily food-friendly, from light salads to the hottest fusion-style cuisine. Regarding the question we're most often asked: 'Were you trying to do this or did your leftovers happen to work well together?' We'll let the success of Evolution speak for itself."
I love it and I think you will too.
