Diana has been encouraging me to go to Jackie's for ages. I finally agreed and I thought it was great. There have been so many so so places in that spot over the years that I guess I was just not expecting much. So if you have never dined at Jackie's here is the deal. Take the best of Watchung Deli, the great sandwiches they have, and combine that with the great Middle Eastern dishes they serve at Falafel Hut, throw in some Greek Delights and add the Jackie's Magic and you've got a great place.
We enjoyed some Mediterranean fare paired with a nice dry Domaine Lavigne Saumur Blanc found at Magnolias. Which is another good thing about Jackie's they have nice wine glasses.
Diana had a vegetarian platter, you can pick from their many vegetarian offerings. Here we have some delicious falafel, a lentil salad, a cauliflower salad, and some eggplant salad.
Every plate comes with pita slices and humus or tahini sauce.
I went the lamb route and had a Kefta platter with a yogurt sauce some fresh and tasty sides.
Many of the menu items are Middle Eastern or Mediterranean. But if your are hungry for American you can choose a cheesesteak, Sloppy Joe, and a number of other specialty sandwiches . For breakfast, bacon and egg sandwiches and omelets are served.
The wine was a Cynthia Hurley selection, "The wine seems to shimmer with a faint light. Crisp! .... It’s lithe and springy, bouncing around in my mouth with dashes of pears and grapefruits and lemons"
