BERGEN RECORD PUBLISHES BURZICHELLI/MCHOSE OP-ED CALLING ON LEGISLATURE TO ACT NOW TO PASS RETAIL WINE OUTLET AND DIRECT SHIPPING LEGISLATION
The Bergen Record, a major north Jersey newspaper, published an op-ed today written by Assembly members John Burzichelli (D-3) and Alison McHose (R-24), calling on their colleagues in the Legislature to move quickly to pass retail wine outlet and direct shipping legislation.
It is critical for your voice to be heard! Please take action today and send an email to your elected state representatives. Let them know A-3897/S-2782 is the bill of choice for the NJ wine industry and the state's wine consumers.
The authors of the op-ed, as well as 14 other members of the Assembly, are sponsors of A-3897, which provides a remedy to the Third Circuit Court's decision by allowing small wineries both in-state and out-of-state to operate retail wine outlets in NJ. In addition, the legislation changes New Jersey's law to allow for direct shipping of wine from small wineries only, which is defined as those wineries who produce 250,000 gallons or less of wine per year. Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D-3) and Senator Jim Beach (D-6) are co-sponsors of S-2782, a companion bill to A-3897.
The Burzichelli/McHose op-ed urges the Legislature to take up their bill when the Legislature convenes in May. They point out that if this issue is not corrected soon, it could ultimately lead to many NJ wineries going out of business.
