After a beautiful morning on the Sea Girt beach we headed north for lunch. We ended up on the crazy eclectic Asbury Park boardwalk which is well worth of a trip onto itself. Mexican was what we were craving along with a cold cerveza, so Pop's Garage it was to be.
Most of the tables are right on the boardwalk which provides a great opportunity for people watching. Girls, boys, men and woman of every shape size and color, glamorous and not so, bask in the hot sun on the beach and stroll the boardwalk, it is quite an entertaining site.
Asbury Park has gone through many changes since I used to go there back in the 60's. I am so happy it has made such a great come back. The boardwalk and nearby areas are safe and fun again.
Pop's Garage, along with the fabulous Langosta Lounge and Dauphin Grill by Marilyn Schlossbach and family and friends are exciting and delicious dining events.
The umbrellaed tables give a sweet break from the sun while giving a front row view of the boardwalk action.
The food at Pop's is great. We had some awesome Guacamole, and frozen margaritas and beer.
I tried a Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. "A shandy is actually a mixed drink made from beer - typically Pilsner in my experience - and lemonade. For this premade shandy Leinenkugel used and American style wheat beer with "natural lemonade flavor." About Beer
The low alcohol content makes it a good thirst quencher on a hot summer day.
We also realy enjoyed the Pop's Ceviche with camarones, tuna & pineapple mixed with cilantro, lime & tomato and some Cuban pork tacos doused with the best hot sauce ever, Mazi Piri Piri. This hot sauce was featured in Saveur Magazine in May. I loved it so much we drove over to the fabulous Sickles Market in Little Silver, NJ to buy some.
Sickles is an amazing gourmet emporium with everything you could ever want when it comes to food. Incredible variety and quality in an idyllic location. Since 1908 Sickles Market has become a favorite destination for the best produce, plants, gourmet foods, garden accessories, and gifts at the New Jersey Shore. Family owned and operated for four generations.
After Sickles we drove up to The Highlands for some great beer at Twin Light Taproom
