I am always looking for fun and interesting wine experiences and for that Naked Wines fills the bill.
This site is really for our friends in the UK but for us on the other side of the revolution it is still informative and fun.
There are so many new sites popping up built on the social networking concept and wine.
Naked Wines is one of the better efforts. An on-line wine club that offers a great means for buying wine on-line.

Sangiovese is one of my favorite grapes especially in its hybrid known as Brunello. From these grapes come some of the world's finest wines lovingly made in the prestigious vineyards of Tuscany, Italy.
I have enjoyed Sangiovese from other parts of the world, but a Rose of Sangiovese on first blush, no pun intended, seemed like sacrilege.
It is not that I don't like Rosé wines, I do. I especially like unusual Rosé wines like Crios de Susana Balbo Roseof Malbec or Il Mimo Rosato Di Nebbiolo. It just seemed that Sangiovese is to nobile. I was wrong.

Here is a very unique Spanish wine that was wine two of the September delivery of my new Amanti Vino Wine of the Month Club.
Primativo Quiles Raspay 2002 from the Alicante region.
Its festive label conjured images of rollicking nights of dining from 10 to 1.
Spanish music, tapas, beautiful people, a bright full moon.
The wine lived up to all that.

Here is a Georgian wine, Saperavi, from Kakheti region of Georgia.
It is an interesting wine with intense smokey flavors with acidity and body similar to Barbera.
You may wonder why I tried this wine. The desire was not inspired by recent political events in Georgia, although I do encourage learning about other cultures around the world, but rather part of another global endeavor, to taste over 100 wine grape varietals. This one puts me at 89 wine grapes tasted. Learn more about this challenge here > De Long's Wine Century Club.

I have begun my search for our 2008 Summer wine collection. Lots of entertaining and weekends and nights at the pool club demand a well stocked wine cellar. These Summer wines are often best young, last years group is gone. This year's collection will include some light summer whites for sipping or quaffing and several reds that go well with bar-b-que.
Started with a case from Shoppers Vineyard.

Nell is back from Australia and has settled in Richmond to finish school at VCU.
A visit home to Montclair for Spring break inspired us to revisit Australia with this "OZ" dinner.
The May 2007 issue of Bon Appetit - Where To Eat Now - covered Australian Cuisine in the article "the Wizardry of OZ " which included several great recipes.
Here are the dishes we made, with wine pairing notes and tips on where to find ingredients.

Here is a report on 10 Wines in the Ten Dollar range we tasted recently.
The availability of good wines at this price point continues to grow. While the market for expensive wines is going out the roof, virtually every wine store also has a good selection in the $7 to $12 range.
My favorites of this group were a Chenin Blanc, Mulderbosch 2006 Stellenbosch, Africa and a Pinot Noir, Cully 2006 Marlborough Valley, New Zealand.

You can always count on tasting great wine at Gary's Wine Marketplace in Madison, NJ.
I made a special trip tonight to see Paula Kornell of Oakville Ranch Vineyards and taste their wines.
Oakville Ranch is a wonderful property in Napa owned by Mary Miner who with wine maker Ashley Heisey turns out amazing wines by letting mother nature do her thing. Paula, with her southern charm, is General Manager and the voice and Ambassador of this fine winery.
