Broad Street in Bloomfield between Warren and Waverly is becoming quite the restuarant row. With Pandan, Momoya, Brookside Thai and a new immediate favorite Bohemia. I should not leave off the list old favorites like Vinnie's, Town Pub and Obels Inn.
This review is about Bohemia, where we dined last night with our fellow fussy foody friends Gail and Marc. We all left very happy and anxious to return.
Bohemia is a hip scene with a great vibe. Ripe with warm colors and great Latin sounds. The tables are decorated with lively Chulucanas Ceramics from Peru. The wine list is good, but we started with the delicious pisco sours, a perfect mojito, and some delicious cerveza. I loved the Quilmes cerveza from Argentina.
For dinner we followed tips from David Corcoran's review in the NY Times, A Peruvian Place That Aims High.
We started with the seafood cerviche, it was fresh and delicious as promised. We also tried the Papa a la Huancaina which was very tasty and had just the right amount of spice. Diana, since she is on a Vegan kick lately, ordered the avocado salad which was nice but seemed bland against the other dishes.
We shared the brochetas Bohemias, "three skewers of perfectly grilled beef, chicken and shrimp; and churrasco, the marinated skirt steak borrowed from Argentinian cuisine."
And of course, as David recommended, "The side dish to order is tacu-tacu ($5), a mixture of rice and white beans seasoned with peppers, red onions and cilantro, patted into a cake and pan-fried. Crunchy and deep with flavor, it could vie with ceviche to be the Peruvian national dish." We agree this is a great dish.
We also had grilled shrimp with a side of fried plantains and enjoyed the perfect rice and beans.
Too full for desert. But they did look good.

We went there last Friday, and it was fabulous! This area of Bloomfield will soon be known as the "gourmet ghetto."
