Our former favorite Gottino, but something has changed there, they seem to be more focused on food and coffee than wine, some definite change of approach here, too bad. Our favorite now is Aria at 117 Perry Street.
We first wrote about Gottino in 2008.
Three years later, celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary here last night, had a beautiful time followed by a magical nighttime walk on the new section of The Highline.
Gottino, on Greenwich near Perry Street in the West Village.
A creation of one of our favorite chefs Jody Williams.
Check out the web site Gotttino When you visit tell Jeremy you saw Gottino here.
Gottino is among a new breed of Wine bar that offers not only great wine but also irresistable food.
As Eric Asimov of the NY Times comments:
"Gottino in the West Village has an Italian theme, but its creative menu goes way beyond the salumi-and-cheese places, with enticing dishes like sweet-and-tart beets, cooked in parchment and bathed in a bright horseradish sauce."
Wine Bars Grow Up and Squeeze in
And in another article he says, "I had a very good Cerasuolo di Vittorio at Gottino but what I continue to crave are Jody Williams’s delicious house-cured anchovies, the buttery potted salmon, which I could eat endlessly, and the hefty little meatballs of pork, bread and prune, which alas disappeared with the winter menu."
Wine May Be the Come-On,But I Come Back for the Food
We are all about that.
We loved the food and the wine and the friendly atmosphere. The food credit to a great degree goes to Chef de cuisine Meredith Sutton I believe. We had a several delicious small plates and 3 glasses of wonderful Italian wine.
