You know how much we love the High Line, it just keeps getting better and sadly on weekends often very crowded. We like to visit during the week or in the evening when it could not be better, short of more gentle sunny days and balmy dry nights.
One great new addition is Terroir at “The Porch” the latest outpost of the great East Village restaurant, Hearth. This is a sincere extension of their Terroir wine bars. There are now five around town.
Hanging over 10th Avenue with a view of the river and Hudson River Park, it is an outdoor oasis for great beer, food and wine. We took a day off on Monday and treated ourselves to a great lunch here.
The lagers and ales they offer are all New York made. The food is fresh and well sourced.
Crisp Radishes, sea salt with a touch of anchovy.
Diana loved her Greenport Citrus IPA from the North Fork, exactly her kind of beer. Greenport Harbor Brewing is the work of John and Rich who met in college and began a journey in beer. They have been brewing in the Village of Greenport since 2008. They are doing very well.
Everything that can be housemade is housemade, like these detectible kosher dill pickles.
I enjoyed a Nut Brown Lager from Kelso in Brooklyn. The name "KelSo" is an amalgamation of the Brewmaster's name, Kelly Taylor, and that of his wife, Sonya Giacobbe. Love husband and wife teams. They are committed to great beer and having a positive impact on the environment.
Next came the Terroir fries with the most amazing spicy ketchup (from Sir Kensingtons) and a fresh farro salad with sugar snap peas, spring onions & mint. Somehow missed a picture of that. Farro is all the rage lately. We picked some up in the Italian market BuonItalia downstairs at Chelsea Market, along with a lot of other good stuff.
We loved the savory duck ham sandwich with roasted mushrooms and taleggio cheese on a crisp roll and finally the tasty breaded and fried lamb sausage with sage leaves.
This I washed down with a great Peekskill Eastern Standard IPA.
Oh soooooooo good!
The wine list is also very good, we will check that out next time.
The creators of Hearth and Terroir are Marco Canora and Paul Grieco they "have a combined 30 years of restaurant experience between them. Both have managed and contributed to the success of some of the most highly respected restaurants in New York City." Hearth
