I love Google Maps! And NYC in the summer on the weekend. So easy and uncrowded yet still lots of great places to go and beautiful people to see.
Before Midnight at the Angelika Cinema was my to be entertainment for the evening, love Juley Delpy. Now where to go for a good cocktail and a bite to eat? Scanning deeper beyond the obvious Google offers, I found Saxon + Parole a few blocks away from the theater at 316 Bowery. On the menu was a 'barrel aged' cocktail and some really enticing food that cinched the deal. Read on.
Bar was busy but soon found myself a stool. The menu here offers up some amazing cocktails and as you see some Brad Farmerie's sea and land delights.
Ordered up the Prince Edward Cocktail ‘Barrel Aged’, made with Compass Box whiskey from England, Lillet Blanc, from France, Drambuie, from Scotland and lemon bitters; Assembled in the USA, NYC to be exact, and aged in oak. Boy what a great cocktail.
The beverage offerings are the masterwork of "Naren Young and Linden Pride, and feature a fresh approach to bespoke spirits, syrups, bitters, fresh-squeezed juices, and house-made sodas, and includes Parole Whiskey – Saxon + Parole’s very own house brand of whiskey." Saxon + Parole
Prince Edward piqued my palate and the charcuterie plate called "A bit of everything" seemed just right. And it was.
A delicous spread of three cured porks, chicken liver pot, terrine, three cheeses, olives & house made pickles, homemade mustard, served with frisee greens and radish slices.
Wanting to stay conscious for my movie I opted for a nice cold beer instead of another cocktail, it was a hot summer day after all. On draft was the well made Bronx Brewery Rye Pale Ale. Went down smooth, a perfect compliment to my charcuterie.
316 Bowery (at Bleecker), New York, NY 10012
The movie, Before Midnight, was great and made even better by the lively NY Audience at the Angelika on Houston and Mercer Street which is a great place to park on the weekend.
